Surfear la vida

In this book, the author talks about his personal journey. Dealing with his spiritual and vocacional struggles. Making an analogy between surf, zen Buddhism and life. It is well written, engaging and very profound.

  • Borrowed feathers never grow. You have to find your own path.

  • "When the wave grabs you, resisting is worse, if I fought against the wave I was out of breath, but if I let myself go and then surfaced as soon as it allowed me to. I saved strength."

  • Not all knowledge is taught in the same school.

  • True insight is gained when we free ourselves from preconceived ideas.

  • "A single moment of anger may cost centuries of good Karma." - Shantideva.

  • Lost is a dream, undecided is a perception, a mirage in the vast desert of life.

  • I am not the things I do. I am.

I would absolutely recommend this book. It takes complex spiritual concepts and projects them into an interesting personal story. The only risk is you will want to learn how to surf, and become a monk.
