The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Milan Kundera

5 ago 2023

This book, and this author has shaped the way in which I see love and it's relationship to sex. It is philosophical at its root, but it is wrapped in a complex romantic novel. What does it mean to love? To be free? What about God and the denial of death?

  • When the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object.

  • Anyone whose goal is "something higher" must expect someday to suffer vertigo.

  • Making love with a woman and sleeping with a woman are two separate passions, not merely different but opposite.

  • There is no perfection, only life.

  • That is why life is like a sketch. The sketch that is our life is a sketch for nothing, an outline with no picture.

I had already read this masterpiece time ago, but neither me nor the story are the same. It is not a light reading, but it has hidden gems all over waiting for you to discover them. It is worth the effort of reading it. I would absolutely recommend Kundera and specifically this book.
